Well, we just experienced our first earthquake. Sitting here, watching TV on Christmas eve, the floor moved under us! There was noise and shaking and whoa! Yes, an earthquake. Five minutes later it was showing up on the Christchurch quake map, as a magnitude 4 earthquake, centered about 5 miles away. Hmmm, not so sure about this wonderful city. Christchurch has literally had 11,000 (not a typo) earthquakes since 2010, which has made healing difficult for those that experienced the two big ones. Well, it’s a different way to spend Christmas eve!
Sounds like earth shaking things are happening on your Adventure. Read the blog and it seems like you all are getting comfortable down under. Like the idea of buying a car. We probably could have done that for what it cost to rent one ( Juicy Rental Toyota van) for a month.
Anxious to hear about your circle trip and which direction you headed out from CC in ( south or west) . We are planning a similar trip for 1 month starting around Feb 13th out of CC. Please make note of places you especially liked in certain areas ( We will stay in campervan parks most of the time but will break out into AirBnb and homestays etc when we know there are great options.)
The cul de sac neighbors will miss you for New Years but let Spence know it was a wise move to take his boat to MN for the winter. No telling if Hugo and Michal’s Dad will come thru on an ark for the Hogmanay! Wishing you both happy and safe travels and stay in touch. K&R
